RS-38M Handheld VHF Marine 2-Way Radio Waterproof and Floats WITH GPS & DCS

This is a Recent RS-38M - VHF Marine band hand held radio. The main advantage of this radio, over the baby brother, the RS-36M is that you can enter the MMSI number from your licence and take advantage of the built in GPS to increase your safety level. The radio has on the rear a red hinge up flap, and pressing the button underneath will activate the DCS emergency function, sending out your emergency call plus your location and ID - so the coastguard knows who and where you are if you are in trouble.

The DCS function also lets you set up call groups with friends, colleagues and organisations so you can call them individually or as a group rather than put out a voice call. DCS equipped radios will electronically put the call out, and if the other radio responds, they both switch to another channel for voice contact! It is IP67 category waterproof - essentially this means you can drop it in the water where it will float and has a small flasher built in so you can find it in the dark! All the buttons and sockets are sealed making it a very handy emergency radio. If you have a boat and don't yet have a radio, these can get you safe and able to communicate at a very reasonable price. Packed with features, but the critical ones are one-button controlled. It can operate on the the three main channels settings - International, the one most commonly selected in the UK but also has the USA and Canada settings available if you travel to these regions. High Power output is 5W, and the Low Power setting is 1W. Instant access to channel 16, and the small size fits easily in the pocket. Please note this radio includes channel 80 (UK Marina Channel) but does not operate on Ch 37(M1) 157.850MHz or Ch (M2) 161.425MHz.

We can add these channels to the radio - but be aware that you also then get access to a very large number of channels - going from channel 6 to 73 is then a lot of button pushes! Most customers do not require this feature - if you do, just send a message and we'll add them, otherwise we'll send the standard version. PLEASE NOTE - All radios described as waterproof rely on making sure the battery compartments are secure and correctly fitted - if you remove a pack, cover or flap please make sure you replace it carefully so the water exclusion seals can make good contact.

If the batteries or covers are not fitted properly - water WILL get inside. It's very important to check they are closed properly.
